Industrial Technology Behind the Razor Head

The head is the single most important component in determining the performance of a double-edge safety razor.

Even minute differences in dimensions, including blade exposure, blade angle, and the precision with which the blade is secured, can have a significant impact on shaving comfort and safety. YUKYU JINROU uses MIM (Metal Injection Molding) for the razor head and plate.

MIM is an advanced powder metallurgy technology in which a feedstock made by mixing metal powder with a polymer binder is injection-molded, then debound and sintered to produce high-density metal components. Because it enables the mass production of complex three-dimensional shapes with high dimensional accuracy, MIM is widely used in fields where exceptional reliability is required, including automotive components, medical devices, precision instruments, and watchmaking.

Comfort Through Precision

YUKYU JINROU precisely machines brass, copper, and stainless steel according to the unique characteristics of each material.

For the head, SUS316L stainless steel is used for its excellent corrosion resistance. It is widely used in applications such as medical equipment and food-processing machinery, where high levels of hygiene and durability are essential. Even when exposed to water, soap, and humidity, it is highly resistant to rust and retains its beautiful appearance for many years.

Because a razor is an everyday tool, YUKYU JINROU chose a material that can be used with confidence over the long term.

One of the greatest advantages of MIM is its ability to mass-produce complex shapes with a high degree of precision and consistency. Although MIM is a molding-based mass-production process, dimensional variation between individual components can be kept extremely small. This allows the replacement blade to be held uniformly, delivering a consistently smooth and safe shaving experience. After sintering, each component is further finished through flat grinding and buff polishing, creating a beautiful luster and a smooth, refined surface.

Preserving Traditional Craftsmanship Through Technology

In designing the head, YUKYU JINROU repeatedly conducted prototyping and testing in-house. The team carefully examined every detail, including blade angle, blade exposure, safety, and handling, to pursue the optimal shape.

To faithfully translate this design philosophy into a finished product, YUKYU JINROU worked closely with a MIM manufacturer in Japan through numerous rounds of consultation and refinement. The result is a distinctive razor head developed specifically for YUKYU JINROU.

The photographs featured here show the molding process, including the moment when the molded parts are removed from the mold, as well as the finished razor heads. Manufacturing processes like these are rarely seen by consumers. Yet behind every razor lies Japan's advanced precision manufacturing technology.

For traditional craftsmanship to embody beauty, it must be supported by sophisticated industrial technology.

Traditional handcraftsmanship and state-of-the-art precision machining.

YUKYU JINROU brings these two worlds together through Made in Japan quality, creating a razor made to be cherished for years to come.
